Our parents grew up with completely different musicians from us, and some of us grow to appreciate what they listened to. When I was a teenager, I started listening to my dad's absolute favorite bands he grew up from the 60's to the 80's. I even became a huge fan of them! When he would drop me off and pick me up in school, he always had his CD on or the classic rock stations Eagle 969 or 104.1 The Hawk. He was a HUGE Led Zeppelin fan, which influenced me go crazy and download their songs, research and learn about the band members (I regret not going to the Bottle Rock Festival in Napa, Robert Plant was there!), and buy their t-shirts and posters. I often used to imagine myself as a teen or young adult in that era.
The funny thing was, even though The Beatles were the most revolutionary band of his time, he was never crazy fan about them like he was with Zeppelin. In fact, he hated Paul McCartney. Though I do like some of their songs, like "Help!" and "Strawberry Fields Forever".
Whenever I'm driving, I switch stations a lot, and I find myself on the classic rock stations. It's also a way for me to remember the fun memories we used to have in the car. We were extremely close. I will always miss him and his memory lives on with me, for the rest of my life. One way I want to preserve our memories is by revisiting some of his favorite tunes. Here's some of my favorite songs I compiled together on Spotify:
1. "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin
2. "Beast of Burden" by The Rolling Stones
3. "Touch Me" by The Doors
4. "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" by Van Halen
5. "We Belong" by Pat Benatar
6. "Carry on Wayward Son" by Kansas
7. "Lights" by Journey
8. "Tom Sawyer" by Rush
9. "These Dreams" by Heart
10. Your Wildest Dreams" by The Moody Blues
What type of music did your parents listen to? Did you learn to appreciate it, and even embrace it yourself?
