Feelin' hot with Nars Heat Wave!

Hi all!  So the other day (being a public holiday here in Australia), I was just wandering about the mall, checking out the post-Christmas sales.  It does not usually happen that the shops are open here in my city on a public holiday, so I was excited. ^_^  Plus, there was a $5 flat rate parking in the CBD!!!  :D  Further, on a 40-degree (celsius) day (eep!!!), I had to go where there was better cooling system than my place.  So, plenty of excuses to be at the mall. ;-)

I stopped by Mecca Cosmetica and thought I'd be brave and try out their range of 'tangerine is the new red' lip colours (from various make up brands such as By Terry, Hour Glass and Nars).  I'd often walked passed the display to and from work and while the bright hue attracted me, I had my doubts of pulling it off.  The lovely sales lady immediately picked out the Nars Lipstick in 'Heat Wave' (#1010) for me.  OMG. The second she put this colour on my lips I immediately got very excited and fell in love with the colour.  It's incredible.  Although, you may find dupes of this colour seeing as it is quite trendy of late including from less expensive brands.
Price, Size and Packaging
The packaging is very sleek black, square-shaped tube. Even somewhat reminiscent of a tuxedo (#odd comment).  Quite cute and compact in size.  Shorter than other full-sized lipsticks I own.  The cap just simply clicks into place very securely as not to come loose in your handbag.  This costs US$24 / AU$45 for 0.12 oz / 3.4 g of product.

Colour, Finish, Texture & Scent
Nars 'Heat Wave' is an intensely pigmented, bright, orange red that has a semi-matte finish.  It has full coverage and is long wearing.  I can eat and drink and it will still leave behind a fairly good amount of stain on the lips.  I love the way it clings and hugs my lips, so I feel like it's not going to budge.  It's also feels non-drying, which is great.  It feels like the way a good old fashioned lipstick should and is a nice change from all the balm-like lipsticks and lip gloss/stick hybrids of today.  There is no noticeable scent.

Overall
I love this killer orange red.  I feel very modern and sophisticated when I have it on.  Having a bright lip colour like this is a quick and easy way to update your look and immediately feel a bit different.  A bit more alive. :-)  For day wear, you don't need to put much else on the rest of your face - just cover any flaws you may have, curl lashes and apply mascara, groom brows and *maybe* if you have time, put just a little bit of bronzer on to add warmth et voila!  C'est tres, tres jolie!  It's perfect for summer, because you look bright and fresh and 'done up' without a lot of makeup on - and because of this, you don't have to worry about makeup coming off and 'melting' in the heat and humidity.  For the evening, you can add a black eye liner just to the top half of your eyes, plenty more mascara, define the eye brows a bit more, and add a touch of blush in the same hue (or just dab a tiny bit of product from the same lipstick onto the cheeks).  Gorgeous and sexy!

Definitely try this out or something similar to update your lip wardrobe!

Thanks for reading! xo
