He's always been a rather sociable little Astro Droid with human 'friends', but Artoo Detoo is also a big hit with other droids of his ilk, as seen here in the Rebel briefing room on Yavin IV. I always thought this scene was very cute in the film- Artoo's got an admirer! One of those little editorial touches that makes the film such a continued and memorable standout.
Presumably, the other droid here was one of John Stears refurbished/repainted Artoo's from previous filming at Elstree. Whether it was operated by someone, or by remote control, is unknown.
