Brick Burger (Pasig City, Metro Manila)

Late late late post. Although I haven't been to themed/concept restaurants a lot, I enjoy them -- whether the food itself is exceptional or just run-of-the-mill. I admire the amount of imagination and effort that are put into the whole caboodle to make a restaurant looking inventive and unique to potential customers.

One such themed restaurant is Brick Burger, located at the Hampton Garden Arcade along C. Raymundo in Pasig -- a more laid-back section of the city, which I like. It had its soft opening about two months ago. The dominating theme of this restaurant is Lego, and I'm pretty sure you're all familiar with the iconic building toy blocks, or just the fake ones thereof.

I learned about Brick Burger on the Phonebooky app, and have made a couple of visits there. On my first visit I dined solo (and I say it again, I have no qualms about dining alone), and on my return I was with my friend.

Whether you're a first time customer or have been a patron for quite some time, the effect would be pretty much the same whenever you step inside Brick Burger (particularly if you're a dyed-in-the-wool Lego fan). This is a Lego paradise! Children mistake this restaurant as a Lego store or any toy shop, that's why they'd tug the hemline of their parents' clothes and implore to them: "Bili mo 'ko niyan, Mommy!" Hehehehe.

And as for me, of course, this place brought me back to my childhood days when I first had my Lego when I was eight during the 80s. I saw Legos as a concession to luxury since we were not really that well-off, and the Legos I played were legit Legos -- made-in-China knockoffs were unheard of, at least to my tender consciousness.

At the counter. I was tickled pink by the presence of the local establishments like BDO, Mang Inasal and Andok's in this cute Lego street.

Even one wall is made of a bigger Lego plate with studs (knobs).

One of my favorite pieces was the retro Volkswagen camper van!

There used to be only a Lego burger, just a toy. Now there's a real and definitely edible version of that!

More Lego figures and Lego-inspired interior details.

I think my pictures won't do decent justice, you've really got to pay a visit there especially if you love, love Legos. Brick Burger is a mini Legoland!

There's no doubt about it that Brick Burger is a highly Instagrammable place. But in order to assemble the Brick Burger experience, we should not just ogle at the toys. Hahahaha. Siyempre kakain din, and that's what I was there for.

My very first burger there was the Wild Style (P250), which consisted of spicy burger patty topped with onion rings.

I admit, the burger was too pretty to eat that it took me a handful of shots (at different angles haha) from my smartphone before actually getting to have a bite of it.

The problem I had with my burger was how dry the red Lego buns were, in particular taking note of the studs on the top bun -- a bit makunat (sorry, no direct English translation). The beef patty was a bit juicy, but not as juicy as Barney's Burger (still the best burger for me!). Plus, I couldn't help comparing it to a torta. But the breaded onion rings were crunchy, I loved them. I would like the burger to be a bit spicier so I asked for a hot sauce.

The Darth Burger (P250) -- burger patty with caramelized onions, bacon, sour cream, and BBQ sauce. The jet-black burger buns merited enough curiosity!

My usual foodtrip buddy Aneth commented that it would be better off as a rice meal than as a burger. Tasting it, I kind of agreed with her this time. Hehehehe.

The Cheesy Mac (P210) -- yep, carbs on carbs. And it was (almost) all yellow... ;)

I definitely liked this better than Wild Style! The cheesy macaroni helped the burger from becoming completely dry in every bite. However, I also noticed that the buns were softer now, even the knobs on the top bun. Which was a good thing.

But the most outstanding thing I have tried at Brick Burger so far is not their burgers (I may sound a bit rueful about this), but their wings! Especially this one, Correa's Wings (P200), the priciest among their chicken wings dishes.

Another look at these glorious wings!

I have used to eating buffalo wings (the traditional spicy wings) or any other wings that are coated with a red sauce (whether that be spicy or sweet-spicy). That sauce may be missing in Correa's Wings, but it was otherwise packed with flavor and texture!

The wings definitely had a crunch, and you won't miss that throughout since they weren't drenched with all that sauce which would have caused them to lose that crunchiness. I reckoned that they were sprinkled with dried chili flakes or something. I thought Aneth won't like this dish because it was spicy but to my surprise, she loved it as much as I did.

Just looking at the fairly bubbly, wrinkled skin and deep red to brown specks of chili around them, you'll know that Correa's Wings are going to be the best wings you'll ever have -- unless you have an aversion to any food with a kick.

Of all my visits to Brick Burger, I have yet to order their shakes. Although they are included in the menu, they aren't available yet. The drinks sound delicious pa naman -- Salted Caramel, Cookies and Cream, Mango and Chocolate Chip.

I enjoyed my experience at Brick Burger, as I do to many themed restaurants that I have been. Everything you look inside this Lego-themed diner is eye-popping, and you'd probably tarry for another hour or two just to admire all those toys, not to mention take lots of pretty pictures of them.

I hate to admit that the burgers -- that should be the star of this restaurant -- need a bit more improvement. But there's no question that they look so pretty! And besides, the place is still fairly new, and would take steps to improve the taste (lacking the juiciness that I have found in other burgers, for one) and especially the texture of its burgers. It still deserves another visit, and I will try their other fares like hotdogs, pastas and sides -- and will definitely order my favorite Correa's Wings again. They really should make the shakes available this time... hopefully on my next visit!
