The National Board of Review announced their this year's choices and there are surprising winners in the top categories. The most shocking thing is not seeing 12 Years a Slave getting an individual prize (no Best Film, no Best Director, no Best Actor, nothing), but at least it is part of their annual TOP 10 Films list, unlike American Hustle and Captain Phillips (considered major Best Picture players) which got completely snubed. The National Board of Review isn't good to predict Oscar winners, but its choices tend to become Oscar nominees or major Oscar players.
So, who's the big winner? Spike Jonze's love story, Her, which took home Best Film and Best Director (shocking!), turning into a major Oscar contender most prediction folks were "kind of" ignoring. Just have a look:
